Swiggy is looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager (Backend) to lead the Instamart (quick commerce) backend engineering team of 10-12 engineers. You will be responsible for the technical quality and delivery velocity of Instamart's inventory management, dark store operations, and order management services.
The role requires a hands-on manager who can both mentor engineers and engage meaningfully on technical architecture decisions. You will work closely with product leadership to define the technical roadmap for Swiggy's fastest-growing business.
- Lead and grow a team of 10-12 backend engineers across multiple services
- Own technical architecture for Instamart's inventory and order services
- Drive technical excellence — code quality, testing, and system reliability
- 8+ years of engineering experience with 3+ years in engineering management
- Strong backend engineering background (Java, Go, or Python at scale)
- Experience managing distributed teams and cross-functional delivery
- Track record of building highly reliable, high-throughput systems
- Excellent people management and communication skills
- E-commerce or quick commerce domain experience is a plus
- Hire, mentor, and retain a high-performing backend engineering team
- Own technical roadmap for Instamart's core services
- Drive sprint delivery, OKR achievement, and quality improvement
- Conduct architecture reviews and ensure engineering standards are met
- Represent engineering perspectives in cross-functional product planning
