Shopify India is hiring a Backend Python Developer to work on merchant analytics, inventory management, and storefront APIs from its Hyderabad engineering hub. Your work will directly support 4+ million Shopify merchants worldwide, including thousands of India's growing D2C brands.
Shopify values engineering autonomy, technical excellence, and impact. You will work in remote-friendly squads with engineers across India, Canada, and Europe, with the freedom to make meaningful technical decisions.
- Build Python APIs for merchant analytics and inventory forecasting tools
- Develop GraphQL APIs for Shopify's storefront and checkout experiences
- Contribute to platform reliability improvements for high-traffic commerce events
- 3-6 years of Python backend development experience
- Strong skills in Django or FastAPI for REST and GraphQL API development
- Experience with PostgreSQL and Redis at production scale
- Knowledge of GraphQL API design patterns
- Familiarity with event-driven architecture (Kafka or Pub/Sub)
- Experience with Kubernetes-based microservices deployments
- Design and implement Python microservices for merchant-facing features
- Build and maintain GraphQL APIs consumed by Shopify's storefront and apps
- Optimize database queries and application performance for merchant scale
- Write comprehensive tests and contribute to deployment automation
- Participate in technical design discussions and architecture reviews
