About the Role
Every day hundreds of new jobs land on JobSpri: some posted by recruiters, many pulled in from company careers pages and job feeds. Before a job seeker ever sees one, our backend has cleaned it, filled the gaps, checked it for fee scams and matched it to the people it suits. That pipeline is mostly Django, Celery and PostgreSQL, and it's where you'd spend most of your time.
We're a small team, so you won't be handed tickets from a backlog you've never seen. You'll pick up a problem, talk to the people it affects (sometimes a recruiter, sometimes our ops team), and ship the fix yourself. Code review is honest and quick, and nothing goes to production without tests.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain the APIs behind the job seeker site, the recruiter app and our admin tools
- Work on the job ingestion pipeline: new sources, de-duplication, and the checks that keep scams out
- Find slow queries before users do, and fix them
- Write tests that catch real bugs, not just raise the coverage number
- Take part in a light on-call rotation (one week in six, and it's usually quiet)
What You'll Need
- 2+ years building production web backends, ideally with Django or another Python framework
- You're comfortable with SQL beyond the ORM: you can read a query plan and add the right index
- You've used a task queue (Celery, RQ, Sidekiq) and know what happens when a job fails halfway
- You write clear pull requests and can explain a trade-off in plain words
- Nice to have: experience with search (PostgreSQL full-text, Elasticsearch) or anything in hiring tech
