Resume for Freshers: A One-Page Format That Gets Interviews

What to put on a fresher resume in India when you have no work experience: the right order, projects and internships, skills, and mistakes to avoid.

A recruiter looking at fresher resumes spends seconds on each one. They're not looking for years of experience; they're looking for evidence that you can learn quickly and do the basics of the job. Your resume's only job is to make that evidence easy to find.

Keep it to one page

With no full-time experience, one page is enough and looks more confident than two. Use a clean, single-column layout; fancy two-column templates often confuse the software companies use to read resumes.

The order that works

  1. Name, phone, email, city and LinkedIn or GitHub link. No photo, date of birth, father's name or full address needed.
  2. A two-line summary aimed at the role: what you studied, what you can do, and what you want.
  3. Skills: the specific tools and technologies, matching the words in the job description.
  4. Projects: two or three, each with what you built, how, and a result.
  5. Internships and training, with what you actually did.
  6. Education: degree, college, year and score if it's good.
  7. Achievements and certifications that relate to the job.

Write projects like work experience

Weak: "Made an e-commerce website." Strong: "Built an e-commerce site in React and Django with cart and payment, used by 40 classmates in a college fest; cut page load time from 4 to 1.5 seconds." Say what you did, with what, and what changed because of it.

Mistakes that get freshers rejected

  • An objective like "to work in a reputed organisation": it says nothing about you.
  • Listing every skill you've ever heard of. Interviewers will ask about them.
  • The same resume for every job. Adjust the summary and skills to each role.
  • Spelling mistakes and an unprofessional email address.

Before applying, check how well your resume matches the job. On JobSpri, open any job and use "Check my match" to see which skills the job wants that your resume is missing.
